Why I Finally Bought the Nintendo Switch 2

Quick Summary

  • I wasn't planning to buy the Nintendo Switch 2 anytime soon.
  • Everything changed after I found an amazing deal on the Official Nintendo Store on Lazada.
  • After stacking vouchers and discounts, I paid around S$584, significantly less than the usual retail price.
  • Before buying, I compared both the Official Nintendo Store on Shopee and Lazada, and Lazada offered the better value at the time.
  • If you're thinking of buying one too, always compare both platforms before checking out.
If you've been following MyGamingDiaries for a while, you'll probably remember that when Nintendo first revealed the Nintendo Switch 2, I wasn't in a hurry to upgrade and I was planning to wait.

After all, I already own multiple Nintendo Switch consoles that were serving me perfectly well. Between my Nintendo Switch Lite, Nintendo Switch Gen 2 and Nintendo Switch OLED, I already have plenty of ways to enjoy my current (and growing) collection of Nintendo games.

My Nintendo Switch collection before the inclusion of the Switch 2.

There simply wasn't a pressing reason for me to rush into buying another console, but life has a funny way of changing our plans sometimes.

The Deal That Changed Everything

What changed my mind was not the fear of missing out. but a combination of factors: from the announcement that there would be an increase in the price of the console in the near future, the want to play Pokopia, and the allure of getting it for less than the retail price.

It all happened when I was just casually browsing the Official Nintendo Store on Lazada and I noticed that the Nintendo Switch 2 was selling for considerably less than I had expected after applying platform vouchers and available discounts.

A quick comparison on the Official Nintendo Store on Shopee, and it was Lazada which offered the better overall value after all the available vouchers were applied.

After stacking the available vouchers, my final price came to approximately S$584, making it one of the best deals.
💡 Shopping Tip
If you're planning to buy a Nintendo Switch 2, don't assume the Official Nintendo Store (or any store for that matter) has the same final price on every shopping platform. Voucher campaigns, cashback promotions and platform-wide discounts can vary significantly between Shopee and Lazada. Spending an extra minute comparing both checkout prices could save you a surprising amount.
Item Approximate Price
Official Retail Price around S$719++
Platform Vouchers & Discounts Applied at Checkout
Final Price Paid Approximately S$584

Why I Decided to Buy It

Even after finding such a good deal, I still give it some time to think if I should actually buy it. As mention earlier, this wasn't exactly an impulse purchase but due to a variety of reasons.

While nobody can predict future prices with certainty, there have been ongoing discussions about increasing demand for advanced chips across industries, including artificial intelligence and data centres. Combined with strong consumer demand for the Nintendo Switch 2, I felt there was a reasonable chance that especially good deals might become harder to find later.

So rather than waiting and potentially paying more down the road, I decided this was the right opportunity for me, and buy it I did.

My Impressions So Far

As someone who has owned most of the Nintendo Switch generation, from the Nintendo Switch Lite to the Gen 2, OLED and now the Nintendo Switch 2, I couldn't help but compare each little detail with the consoles I already own.

The familiar Nintendo experience is still very much there, but everything feels a little more refined.

Rather than reinventing the Nintendo Switch formula, Nintendo has focused on improving what already worked, creating a console that feels instantly familiar while still offering meaningful upgrades

Thinking of Buying a Nintendo Switch 2?

One of the biggest lessons I learnt from this purchase is that it really pays to compare prices before checking out. Although both Shopee and Lazada have have the same Official Nintendo Store, their final prices aren't always the same. Platform vouchers, cashback campaigns and promotional discounts change regularly, so spending just a few extra minutes comparing both platforms could save you a surprising amount of money. That's exactly how I managed to get my Nintendo Switch 2 for around S$584, and it's a habit I'll definitely continue for future gaming purchases. Shopee has an app for Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines and Indonesia, mostly for the South East Asian countries. Besides the (probably) more affordable (cheaper) pricing, shipping is either free or less than SGD$2 (for majority of the sellers). The only downside is that you need a local number and address for each of the Shopee country app.
