Epomaker has been on a roll lately with their magnetic switch keyboards, and this time I got my hands on the Epomaker HE80. As always, this review is based entirely on my own thoughts and experience.
So, if you’ve been curious about the HE80, here’s my unboxing experience, typing impressions, and why this board might just stand out in your setup.
Unboxing the HE80
- the keyboard
- wired usb c cable
- keycap / switch puller
- extra switches
- extra (black) ESC, Spacebar, Backspace, and Enter keys in case your want a more sleek uniform look for the keyboard.
The HE80 only comes in black, which gives it a sleek and classic look. What makes it stand out and adds a funky vibe, is the accent purple see-through ESC, Spacebar, Backspace, and Enter keys. This little detail adds personality and flair without going overboard, making the board feel both modern and playful.
Design & Build
Weighing in at around 0.85 kg, the HE80 feels more solid and grounded on the desk. The build is mostly ABS plastic with an aluminum plate, but it feels sturdy enough for daily use. Compared to the lighter HE68 Lite, the extra weight gives it a more substantial presence.
If you’ve ever missed those extra keys on smaller layouts, the HE80 strikes a great balance between compactness and functionality. The 80% TKL layout means you get the full function row on top, which can be a huge plus for productivity and gaming.
The HE80 doesn’t just type well, it has character. Between its funky accent transparent keys, extra F-row, and spacious design, it’s the kind of keyboard that balances functionality with a playful edge.
Typing Experience
Typing on the HE80 feels satisfying and noticeably more spacious compared to smaller boards like the HE68 Lite. The stabilizers are well-tuned, and the larger layout makes it comfortable for longer typing sessions.Final Thoughts
Overall, the typing experience is comfortable, reliable, and fun, especially if you enjoy the added breathing room of a TKL layout and have the rgb turned on. The Epomaker HE80 blends functionality with personality. Its classic black design keeps it sleek, while the purple funky see-through accent keycaps add just enough uniqueness to make it stand out.
With its solid weight, extra keys, and comfortable typing experience, the HE80 is a fantastic choice for anyone seeking a dependable TKL layout with a touch of flair. The adjustable feet are a thoughtful bonus, letting you fine-tune the typing angle for added comfort.
The only minor downside is that the sleek black case (the keycaps are fine though) easily shows marks from sweaty hands. Fortunately, that can be easily resolved with wiping them away.
Priced at just US$69.99 (around S$95–100), the Epomaker HE80 offers excellent value as a feature-packed 80% keyboard, combining the convenience of a larger TKL layout with extra keys for enhanced functionality.
