My First Step into the World of IP Cards: Featuring My Little Pony by Kayou Animation

When Kayou Animation reached out and offered to send me their My Little Pony collectible cards, I honestly didn’t know what to expect. I’ve collected a few things over the years: keycaps, merch, even plushies, but collectible cards? That’s completely new to me.

I was curious and anticipating its arrival. The moment I opened the package that pretty orange box, I could already tell this was going to be something special.

Before I jump in, a quick note that this post is in collaboration with Kayou Animation, who kindly sent me these cards to try out. All thoughts and impressions here are 100% my own.

So… What Exactly Are IP Cards?

If you’re new to this like I was, “IP cards” might sound a little confusing at first. IP simply stands for “Intellectual Property.” That means these collectible cards are based on official characters and franchises such as like My Little Pony, Harry Potter, Naruto, Transformers, and many more.

Unlike regular trading card games (like Pokémon or Yu-Gi-Oh), IP cards are made for collecting, not playing. Think of them as mini art prints with each one featuring licensed artwork, gorgeous finishes, and different rarity tiers. Some are shiny, holographic, or embossed, making the hunt for special cards both fun and rewarding.

In short, IP cards are a way to collect your favorite worlds and characters in card form,  and they look amazing on display.

Unboxing the My Little Pony Moon Edition Series 2 Cards

Opening my first Moon Edition Series 2 pack felt like opening a tiny storybook. Each card felt alive, each illustration told its own little story, and every new rarity had me grinning from ear to ear. I quickly realized that collecting these wasn’t just about getting the rarest card, it’s about appreciating the creativity and care that went into the set.

The box has 10 packets and there are 5 cards in each packet. So that is 5 times to fine pulling the cards! I'll be making it into a weekly series opening each packet pull, so do check out my Instagram, Tik Tok, or Youtube accounts and follow along!

Even the R cards, which are technically “common,” have little details that make you pause and admire the artwork. It’s a set that rewards attention to detail, and I found myself picking favorites for display almost immediately.

During the first pull, I was delighted to reveal Spike (R), Trixie (R), Pinkie Pie (SR), Pear Butter and the hologram “Out With The Unfashionable” card!  It's a lineup that perfectly showcases the charm and artistry of this series.

Each card features beautifully detailed illustrations that capture the personalities of the characters, from Trixie’s dramatic flair to Pinkie Pie’s signature playful energy. The color palettes lean into soft pastels and gentle gradients, giving the designs a dreamy, almost storybook feel.

But what truly elevates them is the finish. As soon as the light hits the surface, the foiled accents and holographic elements come alive with a subtle shimmer. This adds depth and movement that feels almost magical. The hologram card, in particular, is a standout, with its fun, eye-catching design that makes it feel like a true collector’s highlight.

What I love most is how these cards capture the warmth and charm of My Little Pony so perfectly. The colors are soft, the art is detailed, and the overall vibe just feels… happy. It’s nostalgic, but in the best way. I can't wait for the next pull already!

There’s just something soothing about opening each pack, admiring the art, and sorting them into a binder.

Even though I’m new to IP cards, I totally get the appeal now. You don’t have to be a hardcore collector. You can simply enjoy the process, appreciate the artwork, and connect with a fandom you love in a new way.

Want to Start Your Own IP Card Adventure?

If you’ve been thinking about starting a small collection, here are a few beginner tips that helped me:
  • Start with what you love. Pick a franchise or characters that mean something to you; it makes collecting much more meaningful.
  • Begin small. Try a few booster packs first to see what the designs and rarities look like.
  • Get a card binder. It keeps your cards safe and makes flipping through them super satisfying.
  • Join the community. There are collectors on Reddit, Discord, and even Facebook groups who trade and share their favorite finds.

You don’t have to spend a lot. Just enjoy discovering pieces that make you smile.

Final Thoughts

I never thought I’d fall in love with card collecting, but these My Little Pony cards from Kayou Animation completely changed my mind. They’re beautifully made, nostalgic, and just plain fun to collect.

Once again a big thank-you to Kayou Animation for introducing me to this side of the hobby. If you’ve ever loved opening surprise packs, or you simply want something beautiful to collect and display, IP cards might be your next favorite thing.

Sometimes it’s not about what you pull, it’s about rediscovering that feeling of wonder again.
