Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Introduces Wiglett, the Long Eel Cousin of Diglett

September 30, 2022 0 Comments
The Paldean region of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet has added another unique creature to its ranks...
... Meet the Wiglett

Digletts are Ground Type Pokémon basically whack-a-moles with cute noses, and they were made even more memorable by their cries of “Diglett Dig” in the cartoon. It's cousin the Wiglett,  resembles a garden eel, a subset of the eel species that live underground and poke their heads out from under water. It debuted during a livestream in Japan, which verified that while it bears a striking resemblance to Diglett, it is different enough to be classified as a unique species and not a Paldean variant.

Wiglett is a long worm-like creature that rises from the ground. But unlike the Diglett it is not a Ground Type but Water Type.  It also has a pair of eyes and a nose similar to Diglett, one of the original 151 Pokémon that has already been shown in trailers for the new game.

The Wiglett becomes the 17th new Pokémon revealed for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, including the Paldean variant of Pokémon Wooper from the second generation. New species introduced for the new game include LeChonk, the legendary Koraidon and Miraidon, and the newcomers Sprigatito, Fuecoco, and Quaxly.

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet is the ninth main installment in the Pokémon franchise, which will introduce players to the new region of Paldea when it launches on 18 November 2022 exclusively on Nintendo Switch.

Note: BUSTAFELLOWS is rated “M” in ESRB. It depicts a lot of gun violence as well as drug references, if you are uncomfortable with these themes in fiction, this game may not be for you.

My first foray into Otome games.... Bustafellows

This started out with a sale on Amazon and curiosity as I had never played an Otome game before. So into the shopping cart it went, checked out and it reached my mailbox.

So far I am on Chapter 2, and it's a pretty good otome game to start off with (seeing that I really have nothing to compare to at the moment, but still it's a pretty good introduction into the otome world imo). There is just so much to love about this game: its movielike cinematics, and captivating crime stories that’ll take you on an immersive journey. The best of all? The stellar cast of crime-busting characters that will surely win your hearts!

What's an Otome game?

Otome games, are quite literally translated into “maiden games”. They are a popular Japanese genre of plot-based (RPG - Role Playing Games) video games marketed towards women where the protagonist, usually female, explores a romantic relationship with male love interests over a main storyline. Otome games are usually presented in visual novel or dating simulation format, focusing on visual storytelling and dialogue.

Nintendo Switch Sports Chambara Review and Guide

September 20, 2022 0 Comments
Source: Nintendo

Sometime back I reviewed Nintendo Switch Sports Volleyball and Badminton, and this time I am back with Chambara. I thought Volleyball and Badminton gave a workout for the arms, but Chambara  actually overtakes Volleyball  and Badminton: the speed and arm movements for Chambara are definitely more intense (particularly if you opt for the Twin Swords 😅)!

[Nintendo Switch Sports Volleyball and Badminton First Thoughts Review]

So what is Chambara?

Source: Nintendo

It's basically sword fighting, and is one of six sports in Nintendo Switch Sports. It requires a single Joy-Con, but can be played with two, and allows up to two people to play at a time.

What are the rules?

To win, within the time limit (45 seconds) you have to knock your opponent off the platform and into the water using the arm movements Attack and Guard. If no one is knocked off within the time limit, it becomes a draw. If no winner is decided after three rounds, there's a Final Round in which the arena shrinks.

What are the basic moves?

Attack: Slash the Joy-Con as if it were a sword. The direction of your attacks greatly matters. If your opponent is guarding vertically, you should attack vertically, and so on, or they will block you.

Source: Nintendo

Guard: Hold the ZR(or ZL) button to Guard. Aim perpendicularly to the incoming attacks to stun your opponent.

Source: Nintendo

What types of weapons?

Source: Nintendo

There are 3 types of swords to choose from:

  1. Sword: has an edge with the simplest mechanics. It can knock an opponent off the platform in just 4 attacks.
  2. Charge Sword: f you're adept at blocking at the perfect time, the Charge Sword could be a better fit for you.
  3. Twin Swords: it has the ability to easily confuse the opponent, since you can switch stances and guards very quickly. It can knock an opponent off the platform in 6 attacks.

Some Tips:

  1. An incorrect Guard can be more painful than not guarding at all.
  2. A successful Guard will not push an opponent off the platform, you need to land an attack to win.
  3. Even with Twin Swords, you cannot simultaneously Guard and Attack. Try to go on the offensive first to gain an advantage with the first attack, and then just overwhelm the opponent with a flurry of blows from every direction (hence the arms aching the next day).
  4. When you are being attacked, you are unable to strike back until you correctly Guard. This in turn will effectively stun your opponent. While they are stunned, this is your only opening, so make sure to take it!

Nintendo Switch Digital Games vs Physical Games OnePager

July 28, 2022 0 Comments

Personally, I prefer a mix of digital and physical because it just makes sense. This is especially the case for:

  •  digital games which go on sale on the Nintendo e-Shop and are way cheaper than the physical copy (sometimes up to a 50% discount or more!)
  • physical games which come with special bonuses, make for a good collection or if I don't like it, I can resell it away to fund my other games

So which is your preferred mode physical, digital or a little bit of both?

Digital Games vs Physical Nintendo Switch Game Cartridges

July 13, 2022 0 Comments

Depending on what you want both digital and physical games have their pros and cons. But in a nutshell, if you want easier access to games on the go without having to constantly take out game cartridges each time you want to play a different game, then investing in a in a large-capacity microSD card and getting games digitally would be the choice for you. However, if you prefer owning the game cartridges and have your own little collection which you can trade or resell to fund future games, then physical game cartridges with a little investment on a  invested a smaller microSD card and a carrying case for the cartridges.

Note: The Nintendo Switch and Switch Lite have 32GB of internal storage, while the Switch OLED offers 64GB. When you download a game from the eShop, it will occupy some of that storage space. You can expand the Switch's storage through microSD cards up to 2TB (which is more than enough for plenty of Switch games), but that's an additional expense.

But that's just me. Here is a quick rundown of the important factors you should consider when making the decision.

Pros

 Physical GamesDigital Games
You own the game:Available as soon as it downloads:
The game is yours whether it's delisted or removed from the Nintendo Switch eShop. That isn't the case with digital copies. You don’t have wait for the game you purchased to be delivered or pick it up. As soon as it is available you can download it and play it.
You don’t need to wait to download the game:Easily switch between games:
Unless there is an update you need to download, all you need to do is pop the cartridge into the slot to play without having to wait for it to download.Depending on your storage space, you can download, store and alternate between multiple games without having to switch out the cartridges.
It does not take up storage space:Easily re-downloaded:
As the games are on the cartridges, you do not use the system memory to install the games, unlike digital copies. All games you buy digitally are stored on your Nintendo Account. You can re-download them as many times as you want when you delete games to free up space.
Easily share with others:Can’t be lost:
You can let friends and family play the games you buy without any frustrations. You just need pass the cartridges back and forth. As long as you don’t lost your Nintendo Account, you can never technically lose a game as it’s there in your system.
Resell or trade cartridges:Some games are only available digitally:
You bought the physical copy and now own it. So you can choose to resell it to fund your next game adventure, or trade it to save a little budget. Many Switch games have only digital releases and are not available physically.
Cool physical goodies:
Many physical Switch games come with cool pre-order bonuses or additions, such as posters, manuals, booklets, soundtracks, plushies and much more!

Cons

 Physical GamesDigital Games
Cartridges can be lost:You can run out of space easily:
The Switch's cartridges are very small, slightly larger than a quarter. They can be easily lost, and if you lose them, you'll have to buy replacements.Unless you buy massive storage cards, you'll likely continue to run out of space on your Switch; you'll have to keep buying more memory.
Multiple games need to be carried with you:Downloads can take a while:
If you want to swap out games on the go, you need to carry them with you at all times, unlike when they're installed on the Nintendo Switch.Depending on your internet connection, it can take some time to download your games. If you have a slow connection, it's  going to take a while
Games take up physical space:Games can be removed from the eShop:
The more games you have, the more space you'll need in your home to store them. This isn't great news for anyone with small spaces who wants to own plenty of Switch titles.Occasionally, games can be delisted from the eShop, and you'll no longer be able to download them. You won't receive a refund for your time because if you cannot download it, you don't "own" it.
Not every game is available with a physical copy:Games can't be shared, traded, or sold
Some Switch games only get digital releases on the Nintendo eShop, so you won't get to buy a physical version. You can't simply share, trade, or sell the games you purchase on Nintendo Switch. They are tied to your system, for better or worse.
You must have an internet connection to play digital games
The Switch must occasionally "call home" to verify that you are indeed the owner of the game you're playing. Additionally, if you aren't on your primary system, your Switch will need to verify that you can play a game and it's yours before starting. That means unless you have portable internet, you can't take it on the go.

Kirbys Dream Buffet release date window: Gameplay, trailer, pre-order and latest news

July 12, 2022 0 Comments

Have you seen the adorable trailer for  Kirby's Dream Buffet yet? If you haven't, check out this cute little sneak peak below!

The trailer shows a collection of colorful and fun stages which are all themed around food. In addition, Kirby can also be seen transforming into other baked goods as well, such as a cupcake and a pink chocolate bar! It seems like the winner will be rewarded with a medal of sorts for being the biggest Kirby by the end of the round.

Kirby’s Dream Buffet is a four-player multiplayer game, which finds a group of adorable Kirbys rolling through a collection of food-themed stages consisting of four rounds. Players will need to collect strawberries in order to grow bigger and prepare for the final battle of each stage. There are multiple levels all with different challenges for the four Kirby players to complete, including races and puzzles. A winner is announced after each challenge.

In the words of Nintendo in the announcement of the game, the basic story setup for Kirby's Dream Buffet will feature "a gang of Kirbys rolling through a smorgasbord of food-themed stages in four rounds of frantic multiplayer fun."

The bigger a player's Kirby grows, the better chance they will have to be able to knock other players off the stage and use familiar Copy Abilities, or Copy Food Abilities as they are called in Kirby’s Dream Buffet. Players will use these Copy Food Abilities to beat the competition and win.

Kirby’s Dream Buffet offers accessible gameplay for players of all skill levels, but also presents a healthy challenge for those looking to satiate their craving for friendly competition,” Nintendo explains.

Nintendo has promised that Kirby's Dream Buffet release date will fall in Summer 2022!

The newest Kirby game is a new exclusive game for the Nintendo Switch. So it will only be available via the Nintendo eShop, meaning there won’t be physical copies at retail stores or online. 😞 The game can’t be pre-ordered at the moment, and will only be available digitally.

Are you excited about this release and would you wish for a physical release as well? Let us know in the comments below~!

Toki Tori 2+ Getting Started Guide: The Basics

June 19, 2022 0 Comments
Welcome to my little guide on Toki Tori 2+

Basics

Let's start with the basics, throughout the game you only have 2 move sets (well, 3 if you count moving):
  1. Chirping: used to to attract animals in the direction you want them to be /go. You can also chirp different melodies which do certain things (more on that later on).
  2. Stomping: used to repel animals or move them to where you want to be. This move is also used to break platforms and push down pillars.

Melodies

Melodies are used are consecutive sequences of chirps which results in special effects. There are 2 types of chirps, Long (L) and Short (S) Notes.

Here are the melodies you can use in the game:

  • Finder (LSSS): This points towards any collectibles on the screen. If none appear, then you got them all in that screen!
  • Camera (LSLS): This summons a camera which you use to take pictures of animals and things which are then added to your Tokidex. Complete it, and something good will happen!
  • Map (LLSSLL): This brings up the world map and it comes in handy when you need to orientate your sense of direction.
  • Eagle (SSLSSL): This melody allows you to fast travel. It is only usable at a checkpoint. However, you can only land at obelisks.
  • Rewind (SSLL): This is the "Restart Checkpoint" option. Anything you did between that point and the last checkpoint will NOT be saved. You'd have to re-do it all over again. So this should be your very last resort!

Walkthrough Gameplay

If you need a walkthrough or guide to complete the game, I found this cool collection on Youtube which I use as a reference too from time to time as the game can be a little confusing.

So there you have all the basics you need to start you adventure!

Everything you need to know about Nintendo Switch Sports Volleyball

June 12, 2022 0 Comments

Volleyball is a 4 player sport (2 vs 2) which you have your use a combination of moves to drop the ball over to your opponents side. This game is also one of the more calories burning games so perfect if you want to have some fun and burn calories at the same time!

There are a few ways to play Volleyball:

  1. Local Multiplayer
  2. Online Multiplayer

Don't want to play with strangers or offline? Then the Local Multiplayer is the option for you. If you have a friend, you can even play from the same Nintendo Switch device!

If you have only yourself, it's fine playing Online Multiplayer as the game matches you up with random players around the world. You can also play with your friend using the same device when playing online. The screen will split into two, separating player one and two for better field vision.

Note: If you play together with a friend, you will be matched against two random players and won't get teamed up with other players

Volleyball Bonus Multipliers

Actions

In the game, with your controller in your have all you need to do is to Serve, Bump etc.. You need to do this at the right timing to get the maximum results.

Get the timing right with the right action and you'll surely have a higher chance of winning!

Hitting Combinations

When you serve, bump, set, block, and spike at the right moment to have more and better control over the ball, you will get a "Nice" on your screen if you get the timing right! With fast-moving spike by hitting the ball perfectly from bump, set, and spike, your opponents will have little to nothing chance of returning it if you and your teammate perform it correctly!

Move to Left or Right

When blue arrows appear on your character's side, you will be able to move from left or right. It only happens when anticipating a shot, either bumping it or blocking it. Use it to adjust your position, so you can bump or block the ball better!

Deuce and Sudden Death

If both teams have an even score, it is known as a match point, which be on Deuce. The first team to get 2 consecutive points will win. However, this rule will change once both teams reach a score of 6. The match will go to Sudden Death, with the first team to get to 7 points winning the game.

Nintendo Switch Sports Volleyball and Badminton First Thoughts Review

May 10, 2022 0 Comments

This review is going to be just for the first 20 minutes on Volleyball and Badminton with online play. Don't belittle those 20 minutes... they really gave my arms a workout!

Unlike many players who view this game who see it as one of the biggest nostalgia throwbacks and compare it with its Wii Sports predecessor way back in 2006. Apparently, for those who had the Wii Sports back in the day the latest rendition of Nintendo Switch Sports is a disappointment with not much variety etc... But what does that mean for the newbie? Absolutely nothing!

Well, there is just one little thing... at the moment 3rd party joycons are not supported and you can only play multiplayer on the Switch not the Switch Lite. But that should not be a show stopper if you already have the Switch, right?

It's really not as bad as the "experts" make it out to be. If you are new to the world of Nintendo gamin, are thinking about it or looking for something fun and get a workout indoors as well, then this is one game you should definitely get!

The game already comes with one leg strap for playing football/soccer
There’s a collection of 6 sports games, with the option to play on your own, online or locally with friends. AI will get involved if you don’t have enough people, and you have the option to change the difficulty in every sport.

Motion control is simple to pick up. If you've played the sport before, or know the basics, getting into the game is really easy.

Character customization options are also updated, but for those missing those blocky looking Wii characters there's that option as well. As you progress in the game, you get to unlock accessories and character customizations options. So more motivation to play more!

Volleyball and Badminton

Volleyball has the most moments to learn, such as blocking, bumping and spiking, but they are relatively easier to pick up. Before you play online for the first time, there is also a tutorial which will "trail" and prepare you for all the needed moves. The online experience was really good and real-time. Pairing with strangers was fast (it's faster than getting a team in Pokemon Unite). There are 2 persons in a team and the winning team needs to get 5 points, then the game ends and it's on to the next set of games.

Badminton at the moment is definitely one of my favorites and also the reason why my arms are still aching. 😂 It was really fast paced, yet futo "hit" the shuttlecock to the back of the court. Depending on your opponent and how fast they can hit, you character can also slip and fall due to your frantic movement, which will cause you to miss a hit and sadly lose a point. But it's all in the name of good ol' fun.

Verdict

So far with just volleyball and badminton, I am loving this game already and cannot wait to try the other games! The controls are simple to  It also will make a great motivate to exercise and play when friends come over.

Stay tune as I will be reviewing more when I play more of the game... once my arms stop aching that is. 😂 But in the meanwhile. have you played Nintendo Switch Sports? If yes, which games did you like or did not like? And if not, are you planning to get the game?

Toki Tori 2+ on the Nintendo Switch

May 03, 2022 0 Comments

Toki Tori 2+ is a metroidvania game, which just means it’s is a sub-genre of action-adventure video games focused on non-linear and utility-gated exploration and progression: the player travels through a map to collect items and gain new abilities, both of which open up the world to further exploration.

You play a chicken tasked by 5 ancient frogs to travel the country to destroy the floating crystal endangering everything. With only 2 moves, whistling and stomp, puzzles are to be solved as you progress towards your goal.

Unlike most of the games with explicit instructions and clear tutorials. This game leaves it to you to explore and solve your own puzzles. It can get frustrating trying to figure out what to do and where to go, but the satisfaction from solving the puzzles is amazing. The puzzles strike a really good balance of difficulty by demanding the player to observe their surroundings and plan their moves without ever getting too frustrating (if it does, just take a break before coming back to it again).

When I started playing, I got stuck and had to reset progress at least 3 times. But it got better the more I played and discovered new areas. It’s a relaxing game… that is… once you’ve learned something about the ecosystem of other creatures you manipulate with the only 2 moves you have.

Rule of thumb: If you cannot solve the puzzle, move on in another direction, just take a break and come back to it later. As you progress, you learn new ways of doing things and you can then come back to those puzzles to solve them with the new knowledge you’ve acquired.

The game also has various features such as the Tokidex

The Tokidex

During gameplay, you can use a song to bring up the camera, which is controlled via controllers to take pictures of the creatures that appear in the world. For that you get rewarded for collecting pictures of every creature in the game.

For USD$14.99 (or even less at USD$3.59 when there’s sales on e-Shop), it’s worth it!
You can also just download the Demo to try it out before buying it.

Buying Nintendo Games Digitally from the Nintendo e-Shop

April 21, 2022 0 Comments

Besides buying physical game carts, if you want it digital and possibly cheaper (during sales), you should get your digital games directly from the Nintendo e-Shop.  The region which you set in your Nintendo Account is the e-Shop which you have access to.

[More about Nintendo Account Region]

How to buy games from the US e-Shop

This is suitable for players who do  not have a region e-shop (e.g. Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand etc...). If you have PayPal set up or a credit card, it easy to purchase from the US e-Shop.

For the US e-shop, you will be prompted for a zip code; be sure to select a state that doesn’t have sales tax.

Here are some codes you can use:
  • 97330 – Corvallis, Oregon
  • 03222 – New Hampshire, Bristol
  • 97222 – Milwaukie, Oregon
  • 97116 – Forest Grove, Oregon
  • 97080 – Portland, Oregon
Note: This is only valid for users outside of the Americas region. US citizens need to use their original states for tax obligations.

When there are sales, it can be more affordable to get some games digitally. The only downside is you cannot resell the game once you have completed it or if you find that you don't like it. And you need to have enough storage so buying an external SD card is a must if you plan on getting ma=ostly or may games digitally. Like the physical  game carts, you can get gold coins to offset your next digital purchase.

I was able to get Mario Rabbits Kingdom Battle Gold Edition for less than USD$20, which was SGD$21.02 after conversion. The physical game cartridge without the DLC goes for around SGD$35-40 for a brand new game cart, and around SGD$25-30 if it is 2nd hand.

To stay updated on the latest sales or drop in prices on games, you can set up price alert on Deku DealsDeku Deals tracks the prices of Nintendo Switch games on the e-Shop and at major retailers in order to find the best deals.

Nintendo Switch Game Region (Physical Game Cartridges)

April 10, 2022 0 Comments
For physical cartridges, it is easy to tell the regions they are from as the region will be printed on the cartridge code and case.

Here is a list of codes:
  • USA: North America
  • EUR: Europe
  • JPN: Japan
  • AUS: Australia
  • CHT: China / Hong Kong / Taiwan
  • KOR: Korea
  • ASI: Asia

You can also tell by the ratings system displayed in the lower-left corner of the game box cover art insert.

  • USA: E for Everyone, T for Teen, M for Mature, etc.
  • PAL: Green label with the number 3-7, Yellow label the number 12-16, Red label with the number 18, etc.
  • JPN: Cero A, Cero B, etc.
  • KOR: 12, 15, etc.

For those of us living in South East Asia, Maxsoft and Convergent are our official distributors. They are the ones who import the games from Nintendo. The covers are for the MDE(Middle East Region) are basically the US carts with the E rating on the front but a slightly different back cover (with the MDE one mentioning the Middle East Region). The game cart itself is indistinguishable from the US one as it is the same -USA. Of course, you would still be able to get other covers as games from other regions are also imported (or you could just buy it online).

Fun Fact: Did you know that the spine title alignment for EUR and USA are different?

USA versions are more aesthetically aligned while EUR versions are centralised.
Sometimes physical game cartridges are cheaper when there are sales, and for those of us familiar with AmazonShopee and Lazada, they do have pretty good sales from time to time.

If you want it a little more affordable, because let’s admit it Nintendo games are not exactly cheap, you can get them second hand come Carousell or Facebook Marketplace for slightly less then retail price. However, prices hardly drop much for Nintendo games, so you may manage to get a good deal for second-hand games or you might have better luck with brand new ones.

Do remember to do your research before buying, especially if the price is too good to be true. If the retail price is around S$69.90 or on the e-Shop USD$59.99, and you see it going for less than 1/3 of the price do check if they are selling second-hand physical cartridges or a digital version of the game. If it is a digital version, then it’s against Nintendo’s terms and conditions.

One advantage owning a physical game cartridge is that when you are done with it or are no longer interested in playing you could always resell it off on the second-hand market.

As mentioned earlier, the prices for pre-loved games do not drop that much so the loss is minimal and you can use the monies to fund your next gaming adventure.

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl: Get your Arceus and Darkrai

April 03, 2022 0 Comments

How to get Arceus in Pokemon BDSP

To find Arceus, you'll need to have a Pokémon Legends: Arceus save file on your Nintendo Switch system with all the main missions completed, and ensure your game is updated to Version 1.3.0. In addition to Arceus and Darkrai, the update introduced the Global Wonder Station, a facility in Jubilife City where you can engage in Wonder Trades with players around the world (finally!).

You'll also need to enter the Hall of Fame and obtain the National Pokédex in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond or Pokémon Shining Pearl

Once all the conditions have been met, return to your room in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond or Pokémon Shining Pearl, where you can get the Azure Flute item.

With the Azure Flute, go to the Spear Pillar at the top of Mount Coronet, and Arceus will reveal itself. Be ready to battle this powerful Pokémon!

HINT: Arceus will be Level 80 and since it's a normal-type Pokémon, it's weak to fighting-type attacks. Be careful though - you don't want Arceus to faint!

How to get Darkrai mystery gift in Pokemon BDSP

To encounter Darkrai, you'll need to have the Member Card, which will be distributed via Mystery Gift between April 1 and April 30. Once you've obtained the Member Card, travel to Newmoon Island, where you'll get a chance to capture Darkrai.

With the Member Card in hand, you'll first need to enter the Hall of Fame and obtain the National Pokedex in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond or Pokémon Shining Pear before you can encounter Darkrai. You will also need to have traveled to Fullmoon Island and encountered Cresselia.

The most important thing is to collect the Member card this month and when you meet the requirements later on (after April) you can meet and catch Darkrai anytime later.

Have you caught them all?
